From the start of the crisis involving the capture by Iran of 15 sailors and marines the family of Danny Masterton, from Muirkirk in Ayrshire, have made it clear that they don't want to talk to the press and that they wanted some privacy. By and large the press have respected this although there was the usual garnering of quotes from neighbours, "best friends" and local politicians. All that is to be expected.
Ayrshire folk will have been delighted at the news that Danny Masterton (and the others) have now been freed. What is less delightful is that a newspaper such as The Glasgow Evening Times has chosen to print details of a family health crisis that Danny will become aware of now that he has returned. It is disgraceful that the Glasgow Evening Times has chosen to print such details when the family have, throughout this episode, made it very clear that they wish their privacy. For this reason we have chosen not to put a link here to the article in question and we ask that you don't " Google" it out of a sense of curiosity.
What we should all do is simply let Danny know that everyone is glad to hear that he is back safe and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
