Some good news on the Ayrshire job front. Manchester's air traffic control centre will close in 2010 and 180 jobs will transfer to Prestwick, Ayrshire.
National Air Traffic Services (Nats) will leave only a few control tower staff at Manchester Airport as a new £170m Nats control centre in Prestwick, Ayrshire takes over all operations other than take-offs and landings.
180 of the 220 existing staff have opted to move north to Ayrshire while others have accepted redundancy or retirement.
The new centre at Prestwick, and one in Swanwick, Hampshire, will eventually control all UK airspace in a move designed to improve UK air traffic safety
