Around 4,000 people demonstrated in Ayr, Ayrshire last Saturday against the proposed closure of local accident and emergency facilities.
The proposals would see the NHS Ayrshire accident and emergency (A&E) ward at Ayr hospital closed and replaced by a series of minor injury clinics. The nearest full A&E facilities would be in Kilmarnock - 16 miles from Ayr.
There is real anger against the proposed cuts in health services but it remains to be seen if the health board takes account of this when making a final decision at a meeting in Irvine on 19 April.
