Four people were injured in an explosion (shortly after 7am this morning ) at a pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline factory in Shewalton Road, Irvine, North Ayrshire.
The explosion took place at the factory's Actives facility, where raw chemicals used in the production of malaria and HIV drugs are treated. About 20 people were working in the building at the time. A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "Four men have been taken to hospital. Two have burns injuries which are not thought to be life threatening."
The facility had been closed down as a result of the blast but no evacuations had been ordered in the area at the time of our report.
