The Archbishop of Cantebury's call for the adoption of Sharia Law in the UK reveals just what an out of touch plonker this man is. If he knew anything he would know that there is much concern in the UK about the constant pressure by sections of the Islamic community for this country to continually accomodate their demands.
Starting with the calls for the death of Salman Rushdie over the publication of his book, through the vile videos of beheadings and stonings and the repellent attitude of Islam towards women, people in this country have seen what the influence of Sharia law would bring.
The introduction of Sharia Law is not something that people here will tolerate. Is the Archbishop suggesting that one part of the community be subject to a significantly different set of laws than the rest? What possible justification can there be for this. Such lunacy derives from an excess of enthusiasm about the notion of "Multiculturalism". This is the same Multiculturalism that is encouraging separate religious schooling and storing up a bleak future of possible racial and religious division.
There can only be one law in a country. In the UK and the consituent countries of the UK we have a long tradition of law. We do not need to import legal frameworks built around nonsensical religious beliefs. We already see Sharia Law in operation. There is a journalist currently sentenced to death in Afghanistan for downloading material about womens rights. The Sharia court found this to be blasphemous. We do not want such madness here. We do not need such madness here. We will not tolerate such madness here.
For the Archbishop of Canterbury to actively promote the idea of adopting Sharia Law in this country simply proves that the man is an idiot.

I must agree with what you wrote here. On the other hand, it is good to keep the public discussion going, because Islam is never content to abide by the laws of others.
